Flares, Love, and Sand

Glamis Sand Dunes [ Algodones Dunes ] : A large erg located in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of California, near the border with Arizona and the Mexican state of Baja California. At least, that’s how Google defines it. This is how I define it : A place full of sand, sand and, more sand. A place for the perfect rush. A place to make the best memories. A place for some of the best photos. I grew up in this place chasing other sand buggies from dune to dune. This was ( and still is ) one of my favorite adventurous spots. A couple ( that just so happen to be clients of mine ) spent their weekend in this magical, sandy place. The opportunity ( to drive from Bullhead to Glamis ) was taken. I packed up the goods ( including my little assistant ) and we made our way. We made the 3 hour trip, and may I say, it was totally worth it. It just kind of seemed like a perfect spot for a photoshoot, and I was right. So, they did their dune-ing and then they did some shooting ( not actual shooting. I mean, photo “shooting” ). The photos came out absolutely dreamy and I don’t regret it one bit.
I met my clients at the picture perfect spot ( lots of others agreed that it was pretty picture perfect, considering that there were other shoots happening ). Since we had shown up to sand dunes full of other photographers, we took advantage of my client’s 4X4 truck. My assistant, my clients, their pup and I smooshed in together and we drove further into the dunes. A couple of miles out, we found the perfect location. There were no driving marks nor any foot prints to be seen. So, we set up camp and we began our shoot. For this session, I needed dramatic. And, this place is the perfect place for that. So, ( as I mentioned earlier ) I brought the goods. As in “the goods”, I brought two of the most gorgeous dresses that I have in my client closet. It took two outfit changes but hey, nobody’s complaining. You have to do what you have to do for the shot.
My clients are a young couple that’s just trying to figure out this thing called “life”. They are pretty rad and one of the cutest couples I’ve shot. I shoot candid, only real life smiles and real life emotions. Wyat and Megan were perfect. They’re goofy when they’re together. They’re always laughing and giggling — they made my job just a little bit easier. The session was nothing but fun. To be able to shoot their love was an absolute blast.
